Hello from Boulder

one week to go

Hello from Boulder.

In a week I’ll hand back a key to a door that isn’t mine and head out again. I’ll tell you where once I’m there. That’s been the rhythm of my life for a while now: a few weeks or months in someone else’s home, their animals for company, and then the road again.

It started when I gave away nearly everything I owned, more than six decades of things, including boxes I hadn’t opened in years. I expected to feel lost without them. Instead I felt lighter than I had in a long time, and curious about everything again.

This blog is where I’ll keep the stories: the places, the people who take a stranger in, and the dogs and cats who decide where we walk each morning.

I’m writing for anyone who has wondered whether it’s too late to live differently. I don’t think it is. In Morocco I met a young man, just out of the Marines, who was sure he had to do it all while he was young. I hope these stories change his mind, and maybe yours.

The next one comes from the road.

see you down the road
